Two heroes are in our portion of scripture, an unknown servant and Abigail the wife of Nabal. The servant speaks to his mistress and warns her. Acting of his warning Abigail goes and meets David who is on his way to commit a monstrous crime against Nabal and all that is his. In the passage you learn of Abigail’s faith as she submits to the one who she believes is the future king of Israel. We learn of her prudence, common sense and wisdom. Because he is drunk she waits until the morning to tell him of the near disaster that almost fell upon him. Study 45 in the series. The Ziphites once again betray David and Saul again gathers his men and goes out to kill David. Saul’s remorse expressed to David in chapter 24 reveals itself as false. Dr Needham considers the subject of true and false repentance. <br /> <br /> The story goes on, and with Abishai, David enters the camp of Saul and finds them in a deep sleep. David spares Saul’s life but takes away from beside him the King’s spear and a cruise of water. From a hilltop David calls Abner who leads Saul’s army and rebukes him. Saul recognises David’s voice, learns of David’s mercy and repents of his murderous actions. Learn lessons from David’s rebuke of Abner.
